Wabi Sabi: Unexpected Beauty

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Wabi Sabi: Unexpected Beauty” at The Confluence. The show will run January 12 - February 27, 2027. The Call is open September 4 - November 12, 2026.

We invite artists to submit work for Wabi-Sabi: Unexpected Beauty, an exhibition exploring the simple appeal found in imperfection, incompleteness, and impermanence. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of wabi-sabi, this exhibition will showcase art that reflects the passage of time, transformation, or growth and evolution. Unexpected Beauty will also celebrate art inspired by weathered or irregular forms and materials and handmade art that reveals the artist’s imprint. Artists are encouraged to submit work that broadens the concept of beauty, revealing it through subtlety and simplicity, worn surfaces, or evidence of time and use. Art should reflect a commitment to authenticity. All media will be considered, including sculpture, painting, photography, ceramics, fiber arts, and mixed-media. Both decorative and functional art are welcome.

Myth and Story

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Myth and Story” at The Confluence. The show will run March 2 - April 24. The Call is open November 13, 2026 - January 27, 2027.

The universes we imagine are often as important as the realities we live.

Myth and fantasy are vehicles through which we can examine the human experience. fairy tales, grand epics, folklore, speculative fiction - all provide us with a lens to view our hopes, fears, and loves.

For Myth and Story we are looking for works that draw inspiration from ancient lore, magical creatures, and heroic tales. We want to see how you bring these stories and worlds to life through your unique creative voice. Explore where civilization meets mystery, and show us what you find.

Texture

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Texture” at The Confluence. The show will run April 27 - June 12, 2027. The Call is open January 29 - march 24, 2027.

Whether you're experiencing music, food, or visual art, texture brings dimension and depth to just about every creative work. As one of the seven fundamentals in art, texture in the arts can be tactile or created through illusion. This exhibition focuses on all forms of texture in all media. Artists are encouraged to think about how texture plays a role or is specifically used in your work, as you all do!  All media encouraged.

Charismatic Megafauna

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Charismatic Megafauna” at The Confluence. The show will run June 15 - July 31, 2027. The Call is open March 26 - May 12, 2027.

Charismatic (Elvis, Taylor, Obama) + Mega Fauna (big animals).   Let’s us our artistic creativity to celebrate lions, bears, wolverines, whales, otters, king salmon, turtles, golden eagles.  You may want to consider mega fauna that lived in the fossilized past and led to today’s animal kingdom and also where evolution may lead and what mega fauna of the future may be like.  Please don’t forget that habitat is the key to wildlife.

Ode to the Methow

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Ode to the Methow” at The Confluence. The show will run August 3 - September 18, 2027. The Call is open May 14 - June 30, 2027.

Ode to the Methow will highlight work that reflects on the layered history of the Methow Valley. Its land, its people, and the many generations shaped by living closely with this place. What can we learn about ourselves as we investigate the past? What shared experiences connect us across generations?

Plein Air

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Plein Air” at The Confluence. The show will run September 21 - November 6, 2027. The Call is open July 2 - Aug 18, 2027.

Plein Air painting, French for "out of doors," was a revolutionary approach to painting in the 19th century when artists moved their studio supplies outside. The recent invention of paint in tubes allowed artists to make this transition outside. The Impressionist movement is characterized by plein air because it allowed artists to capture the fleeting moments of light and color in real time. This show embraces and celebrates the rich history of plein air painting and invites artists to submit work completed entirely out of doors or en plein air.

Revelry

We invite you to contribute to our exhibit “Revelry” at The Confluence. The show will run November 9, 2027 - January 07, 2028. The Call is open Aug 20 - October 6, 2027.

The Confluence invites one and all to make merry in the deep and dark season. Wintertime holidays are for coming together and celebrating what makes life good; we want you to do just that.

• Shipping: The Confluence is a non-profit gallery. All shipping arrangements and costs to and from the gallery of unsold works are each artist’s responsibility. See The Confluence Shipping Procedures Form [PDF] for details.

• Commissions: The Confluence offers a commission structure of 60/40 to non-members artists and 65/35 to member artists.
